At Wide Angle Youth Media, I taught a design course rooted in equity-centered practices, guiding young creatives through the fundamentals of digital graphic design and visual storytelling. While students built technical fluency in industry-standard tools and design principles, our focus extended beyond aesthetics. We explored how design shapes narratives, amplifies community voice, and holds power in systems of social impact. Through personal projects and capstone collaborations, students developed not only their design skills, but a critical lens for how designers can challenge injustice, communicate lived experience, and contribute to collective liberation.
