every little box of soil is a portal to big love.
it started as a sweet courtship. i’d compliment her flowers, she’d bring a breeze that’d flutter their petals, and i’d swoon. this doting turned to curiosity. with trepid hope and hands, id plant a seed and ask, “will it take?” she’d show me and i’d swoon. through the season, curiosity bloomed gratitude. with a pocketful of the sweetest cherry tomatoes i’ve ever tasted, i’d linger in the shade of her tree, palm to the soil in acknowledgement, and i’d swoon. and soon i understood with gratitude comes reciprocity. finding myself in abundance, i’d ask her what she needed from me in return. she’d ask me to keep coming back with care and with others, to see her power in every weed in the sidewalk and to see her in me.. and so i would, and she’d swoon.

We are the earth defending herself. A part of climate justice, as in any movement, is to be in relationship with who you are fighting for. There is no choice but to protect a being you know and love, recognizing sustenance is tethered to our liberation. It can feel exhausting or uncertain to stand up for what you do not hold within you, so I invite you to reflect on your relationship with the earth.

🌿 How do you know the earth, if at all?

🌿 What do you wonder about the earth?

🌿 In which seasons do you feel most connected to the earth?

🌿 In what ways does the earth sustain you?
