BRJA is dedicated to advancing racial equity and anti-oppression (ARAO) work through learning communities, public events, and tailored organizational change initiatives. BRJA’s previous website was outdated in its visual design, lacked intuitive navigation, and did not effectively communicate the organization’s mission or offerings.
This project aimed to transform BRJA’s website into a more accessible, authentic, and engaging digital platform. A comprehensive content audit and survey feedback uncovered key gaps in existing content and user experience. Insights from this phase shaped a strategy to streamline navigation and strengthen visual storytelling, ensuring alignment with BRJA’s mission. Existing materials were refined, and new resources—including multi-use infographics—were created. Clear content mapping ensured consistency with user-focused pathways.
Following a review of potential platforms, Squarespace was selected based on affordability, functionality, and back-end usability. A new information architecture was established, wireframes were designed with accessibility in mind. A focus group tested the redesigned website layout, navigation, and infographics. Users praised the website’s cohesive visuals, easy navigation, and clear hierarchy, but recommended clarifying key terms (like ARAO), improving accessibility to ensure a more seamless and inclusive user experience. By addressing these elements—particularly content clarity and accessibility standards—the final site can better serve BRJA’s community-focused mission.
After launching the site, a comprehensive Maintenance Plan was provided to guide ongoing updates. Training sessions equipped BRJA staff with the skills to manage content, utilize Canva, and interpret analytics, ensuring sustained ownership of the digital space. The new website now offers a streamlined user experience, aligns with BRJA’s values, and supports the organization’s growth as a learning community committed to racial justice.
